What makes Appalachia so special?
Is it the green that blankets the hills,
or the fog that veils them?
Is it the way the sunlight glimmers on ancient stone,
or the way the cool wind still carves it today?
Is it the waters that flow straight from the mountains,
or the path they have etched
through valleys of towering giants?
Is it the midnight song of the whippoorwill,
of the sparkle of a million firefly's light?
Is it a meadow of flowers,
or dew strung to a morning web?
Is it the frozen stillness of the heart of winter,
or the countryside kissed
by the first brush strokes of Spring?
The rise and fall of the river?
Is it the struggles we've endured,
or the freedom we enjoy?

It is all these things and more.
No words, photograph, or painting
could ever fully portray
the wonder of these mountains,
nor the spirit of those who reside here.

Through detailed scientific illustrations, Frolic hopes to share knowledge of species native to Appalachia. This region is home to a wide variety of ecosystems, hosting a surprising array of plant and animals. It is our goal to help others gain a deeper understanding , to encourage a closer look... and ultimately spark the passion to protect these unique creatures and thier delicate habitats.

What will we build with these strong hands,
what will we image with our inventive minds?
Can we heal the scars of the past,
shift our mindset, to a new way of existing?

If a seed can be placed in the hands of a child...
who, in time will plant it,
may it grow into the forest of tomorrow.
May my work be a spark, to ignite change
in the hearts and minds of our people.
The future is ours.... May we hold it well,
cultivate and grow something sustainable,
something better than our past.
Something better for those yet to come.
